Band Bios

Pleasing Iris is a four-person alternative rock band hailing from Rochester, NY. They started out in June of 2002 as an acoustic trio after Fran Wallace, Rose Husted, and Lisa Green all met at a women's trivia night. They were amazed at the incredible support from friends and strangers alike and sensed the true need for this type of band in the Rochester community. They performed the requisite band "rite of passage" and named themselves several different times.  They have called themselves "Comfortable Shoes," "The Urges," "The Uncontrollable Urges," "The Merkins," and "Toby and the Bitches," but have now settled on what is (hopefully) their last name "Pleasing Iris."  With this new name, Lisa and Fran merged with bassist Terri L to give them more variety in arrangements, song selections, and sound.  The trio were then fortunate to find drummer Mark Mitchell, who provides incredible rhythms and a bit of a testosterone kick.

The members of Pleasing Iris attribute most of their musical influence to the alternative and new wave sounds of the 80's and 90's with a smattering of folk and punk influence. Some of their favorites are Natalie Merchant and 10,000 Maniacs, The Cure, Morrissey, The Pixies, Indigo Girls, Cowboy Junkies, Melissa Etheridge, and Blondie. They are always open to new cover song suggestions made by their fans, and they occasionally work on original songs. They can be reached for bookings at bars, clubs, coffee houses, private parties, etc. at pleasing_iris@yahoo.com

Lisa Green is an angst-filled (wannabe) singer originally from Alabama, now living in the wilds of Spencerport, NY with her Boston Terrier, Toby. She got her first start in the music industry by riding around the back roads of rural Alabama and singing along in the car with her best friend to songs by Indigo Girls, 10,000 Maniacs, Stevie Nicks, and 'Til Tuesday. Although the audience was small, the experience was very rewarding. Her passion is finding new music to enjoy, especially artists who are not very well known. In her free time she likes to ride her motorcycle, make sarcastic remarks with her friends, read good books, and waste countless hours on the computer. She is absolutely thrilled to be living out her childhood fantasy of being in a band and very thankful for the support of all her friends.

Terri L is a technical writer whose most recent project was entitled Spiritual Evolution for Dummies. She plays both bass and lead guitar, and she sings when properly enticed. For fun she white water rafts, para-sails, goes rock climbing, speed shifts VWs, and teases small children. She does not yet own any leather, but she owns a bitchin' pair of butch boots and will soon be burning up the highways on her lime-green motorcycle.

Fran Wallace was born and raised as a budding starlet accordion player in Syracuse, NY. Although she still struggles with the concept of "cool," she thought switching to playing the guitar would be a good start. She is best known for her witty comments, winning smile, and extremely popular pants. Her musical influences include 10,000 Maniacs, Morrissey, Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, and all the great polka players of days gone by. Even though she started out in a band just to "get lucky," she's found that creating music and sharing it with others is a rewarding conquest on its own.

Mark Mitchell is a thrill-seeking father of 3 who developed his love for the drums as a child, using an upside down Lincoln Logs can as his first drum set. He has played the drums on and off ever since, and he now puts up with the mood swings and gossip of three women in order to get his musical kicks. His extreme activities include riding motorcycles, jumping out of perfectly good airplanes, and sinking boats in Lake Ontario. When he is feeling particularly brave, he dares to taunt one of the other Irises. His energy and enthusiasm permeate the music of the band, and he is happy whenever he is injury-free.
